Prakruti (Constitution)

Prakruti (Constitution) is a concept from Ayurveda that refers to your unique, inherent nature, determined by the balance of the three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—at the time of your birth. Derived from the Sanskrit word "Prakṛti"(प्रकृति), meaning "nature" or "original state," it reflects the natural blueprint that influences your physical, mental, and emotional characteristics.

The word Prakruti can be broken into:

  • "Pra" (प्र) meaning "before" or "primary," signifying something that is original or innate.

  • "Kṛti" (कृति) meaning "creation" or "action," reflecting the active process of manifestation or expression.

In essence, Prakruti represents the original creation or constitution of an individual—the foundation of who you are before life’s experiences begin to alter or modify your balance. This constitution influences everything from your body type and digestive system to your mental tendencies and emotional patterns.

By understanding your Prakruti, you can align your lifestyle, diet, and herbal practices with your natural state to enhance well-being and prevent imbalances.
